Tatsunoko, an auberge or ‘pension’ nestles on the slopes of Mount Kurohine, In English ‘tatunoko’ can be translated as ‘sea horse’ but the neme literally means ‘dragon child’ The mountain is the home of a black dragon in love with a beautiful princess. This is an area of vivid seasons, rich with legends and history.There are magnificent vistas of mountains whose peaks glisten with snow right in to June. Sky slope are a few minutes drive away. From the time the snow begins to melt, right on through late summer, delicious wild mountain vegetables are served, and if want to swim, canoe or sail, Lake Nojiri is close. Autumn brings many species of wind mushrooms. Carefully selected meat and vegetables are local, with fish fresh from The Japan Sea. In season, if you like, wild duck, pheasant or venison. The water, chilled by ancient springs, comes straight from the tap and is better than any you’ll buy in a bottle. Cocktails, excellent wine or beer in the living room? Help yourself! Tatsunoko has been a second home for me, ever since I first came  here some thirty years ago.I couldn’t wish for better friendship, food and hospitality.
